Wall Ball Area. Wall ball is a very popular game at HTeCV, however there is very limited space to play. Right now, where students like to play wall ball is against the window of the Student Support Room, which is disruptive to the people working there. In our design, we have created a wall ball area against a wall that has no windows.
Large Tree with Stepping Stones. This will be a peaceful area for kids to read or for classes to gather. We thought that stepping stones might be safer than the amphitheater because you cannot fall off the edge. |
Curation Spaces. One issue that students and teachers notice with the outdoor space at HTeCV is that a great deal of trash gets left at the tables during lunch. We think that if we make the eating space a place to display student work, students will take more pride in the area and understand that it is also an important part of our school that should be kept clean.
Covered Eating Area. In our design the eating area has a shaded covering over so that students will not get too hot while they eat. We notice that at HTeCV, most students choose to sit at tables that are shaded, so in the design of the new eating area, we think it's important for all of the tables to have shade. Stream and Pond. At HTeCV, we notice that boys often play with boys, and girls often play with girls. We also notice many competitive games. According to designers of the play area at The College School in St. Louis, a natural playscape encourages more collaborative play among boys and girls. This is why we have incorporated a natural-looking stream that feeds into a pond in our design. Natural Track. Kids love to run at recess, so we created this natural track for kids to run around. It has fun obstacles to keep it interesting, like hills and a log tunnel. |
